The MT6816 is MagnTek's latest third-generation magnetic rotary encoder IC, a new upgraded IC from the MT6815. It is based on AMR technology and proprietary signal processing technology that achieve 0°~360° absolute angle measurement.
The IC consists of a pair of AMR Wheatstone bridges and signal processing ASIC. As the magnetic field parallel to the surface of the IC rotates, the IC outputs a corresponding encoded rotary signal with a signal delay of less than 2us, which can support up to 25,000 rpm, while the user can also read the 14-bit absolute angle data calculated by the IC through the SPI interface supporting up to 16MHz clock. MT6816 is widely used in various motor position feedback control, rotation control and other consumer and industrial fields.
Jianyu Zhu, MagnTek’s R&D director, said: "MagnTek’s third-generation magnetic rotary encoder MT6816 has a huge improvement compared with the previous generation products, mainly reflecting these aspects: First, the system delay is shortened from the hundreds microseconds to less than 2 microseconds. Secondly, the incremental ABZ resolution 1~1024 pulses per revolution user programmable, making it possible to replace the optical encoder on the closed loop motor encoder. In addition, compared to traditional Hall sensor IC, the AMR rotary sensor IC reduces the requirement for magnetic fields due to its operation in the saturation region, which make it easier for users to install."
The MT6816 series are available in a SOT-8 package and is RoHS compliant.
